Because this group is broad, judging a listing on freshness, turnover and how consistent recent reviews are tends to work better than judging by decor or price range alone. Most kitchens in Amherst will adjust a dish for common dietary needs like gluten-free or vegetarian if you ask when ordering. Hours vary widely: diners and fast-food chains often stay open late or around the clock, while bakeries and cafes tend to open early and close mid-afternoon. Catering and food delivery businesses in New York usually require advance notice, from a day for a small order up to a week or more for a large event, so it is worth contacting them early.

Hours are published for 2 days a week. The most common schedule is 10 AM–3 PM. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Amherst is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Amherst is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Updated Review: Amma’s Kitchen is an authentic South Indian restaurant, best suited for tiffin items. Visit 3: “1 star” ⭐️ This is where things went downhill. We visited to try their Banana leaf Vegetarian Meal for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was packed and most people ordered non-vegetarian lunch which had more options. Every dish in the vegetarian lunch lacked flavour and it was a totally disorganised service. They didn’t tell us all the available items in the menu and didn’t serve unless we asked, we had to call them multiple times for the next dish. The only good thing was Vada and all other items were below par!! It was a totally disappointing experience! Visit 1 and 2: “5 stars” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The $5 Mini Tiffin is an incredible value with idli, mini dosa, pongal, and crisp vada with 3 chutneys that were delicious. We can separately order idly and vada (for $1 each) as well. The Veg Kothu Parotta was perfectly spiced, packed with flavour and huge portion size. We finished our meal with coffee and tea served in convenient to-go cups; it could have been but stronger to our taste!

We wanted to give this restaurant a try among a few other Indian restaurants during our visit to Niagara. We did try other restaurants but ended up coming back to this one when we needed it the most. The food served here is amazing, truly home-style, and everything tasted good. We ate both breakfast and dinner there - idly, 4 to 5 varieties of dosas, poori, kothu parotta, dinner combo, vada, Sambar idly, Chappathi kurma. Each and every item on the plate tasted awesome. I would definitely go there and recommend it to anyone who wants to have quality food that is friendly to your tummy.

Visited with my family on a Sunday for lunch and had an amazing experience. They serve only thalis during weekend lunch, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. While it's a bit on the pricey side, it's absolutely worth it. Everything is unlimited, and every dish was fresh, flavorful, and authentic. Honestly, this was some of the best Indian food we've tasted across all the places we've visited in the USA. Highly recommended if you're looking for an exceptional thali experience!

Had the best Idli Sambar & Dosa at Amma’s kitchen. I was sooo craving for south indian food, so we found the best place to have it. The atmosphere, the food, the service everything was top notch. Our bill was only $20 which was very reasonable. Totally recommend Amma’s Kitchen 🫶🏻

Its more like 4.5 stars as the food quality and quantity is good but it's a bit expensive. They do have combo deals which are priced attractively but if you go outside that combo meal deals it gets expensive. The service was quick and courteous so full points for that. Do visit them if in the area and you are ceaving south indian delicacies. May not be my returning restaurant though. Decent experience overall.
